Dead Letter Opener
Biography

Formed early in 2005 by Jazz and Audio Engineering students of the Qld Conservatorium, this 3-piece attempts to push the boundaries of traditional forms of metal. Comprising of an explosive mix of mathcore, grindcore, black metal and progressive rock, as well as incorporating sampled material, DLO aims to carve its own sound in the Aussie metal scene. DLO's dynamic contrasts range from extreme noise material to haunting ambient passages, with all stops in between. 2007 has proved to be an exciting year for DLO including the national release for their debut ep as well as supporting such bands as Beijing Tank, Lynchmada and Five Star Prison Cell.

“Must write a massive shout-out and kudos to Dead Letter Opener, who have basically set a new benchmark in local metal. Any up and coming band
should go see these guys and take notes about professionalism and pure musical brilliance. They are an absolute must-see!” – KENT HAINES (Rave Magazine)

“The aurally assaulting intro by Dead Letter Opener is a sign they're no ordinary band; a point hammered home in their generically diverse set of avant-rock delicacies. With tracks ranging from rocking psychedelia to European black metal, I'm impressed by their mastery of each sound they touch on.”- JAMES STAFFORD (Rave Magazine)

“Launching their Certified Nerdcore E.P. amongst esteemed company are the genre-traversing maestros Dead Letter Opener. Their high-pitched noise-intro stays within safe volume levels this time and their onstage gear behaves, allowing their twisted momentum to flow freely. I’m reminded of Spruance-inspired miscreants Estradasphere, who stage similar feats of dynamic trickery, an impression strengthened by DLO’s black metal mastery from the moment Fat Ninjaz Revenge opens. Introspective instrumentals, broken chord grooves and off-time interplay flow freely, culminating in more Nordic metal. DLO’s unique sonic amalgam ties together the disparate styles featured tonight with distinction. In fact, the diversity of tonight’s all local line-up borders on maniacal; kudos to Phoenix for taking the risk.” – (Rave Magazine 1/5/07)
